Subject and objectives
The subject of the Programme is the specialisation of scientists in the field of banking, insurance and finance. Its objectives are the following:
- The acquisition of specialised knowledge in matters of finance: investments, corporate finance, portfolio management, forms of investment, valuation and financial analysis of companies.
- The examination of the financial environment: the banking system, both international and domestic, the principles of supervision, credit policy, the risks arising from financing policies and the conduct of banks as providers of services.
- The methods and instruments for financing companies, both banking and non-banking, with an emphasis on small and medium-sized enterprises.
- The examination of specific matters of the insurance market and of insurance products.
- The role of the public sector, both in supplying financial resources and in raising them, and the consequences for the market and for companies.
- The promotion of banking and insurance products and, more generally, bancassurance marketing.
- The practical approach to these matters, through tools for financial and bancassurance information.
- Preparation, at a theoretical level, for the continuation of studies at doctoral level.
- Meeting the need for professionals in companies, banks and insurance companies, in both the private and the public sector.

Governing bodies
- Senate of the Institution. It decides on the academic, administrative, organisational and financial matters of the Programme and exercises any powers not assigned by law to another body.
- Department Assembly. It exercises the powers laid down in Article 81 of Law 4957/2022, including the assignment of teaching duties, the approval of dissertations and decisions on matters of study.
- Coordinating Committee (Σ.Ε.). It is appointed by the Department Assembly and monitors and coordinates the operation of the Programme.
- Director. A faculty member of the Department, by preference of the rank of Professor or Associate Professor. The Director is appointed by the Department Assembly and is responsible for drawing up the Programme and for its proper operation.
- Postgraduate Studies Committee. The recommendation of the Department Assembly is forwarded to the Senate through the Committee, which assesses whether it is complete and, if it finds it incomplete, refers it back.

Legal framework
The Programme was established by Decision no. 7066 of the Senate of the University of Western Macedonia and operates under the Regulation approved by Decision no. 7237 of the Senate. It has been accredited by the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE) by decision QA_1883/08-07-2025.
