Call for Applications for the 2026–2027 academic year
The Department of Accounting and Finance of the University of Western Macedonia invites interested graduates to apply for admission to the Master’s Programme “Banking-Insurance and Finance” for the 2026–2027 academic year.
The Programme leads to the award of the Master of Science (M.Sc) in Banking-Insurance and Finance, covering the fields of banking, insurance and finance. Studies are conducted entirely by distance learning, with synchronous and asynchronous teaching methods.

Who may apply
Applicants admitted to the Master’s Programme “Banking-Insurance and Finance” are holders of a degree from a Higher Education Institution in Greece or of a corresponding qualification from a recognised institution abroad.
The Programme is addressed mainly, but not exclusively, to graduates of Departments of a School of Management and Economics and of related scientific fields who wish to acquire specialised knowledge and to deepen their understanding of banking, insurance and finance. It is particularly suitable for:
- graduates of economics and related disciplines,
- graduates of other fields with an interest in the financial and insurance sector,
- employees and business professionals,
- professionals in banks and insurance organisations,
- professionals in the public sector, in cooperatives and in local government organisations,
- professionals who wish to strengthen their knowledge and qualifications.
The interdisciplinary approach of the Programme allows applicants with different academic and professional backgrounds to make use of it for their further scientific and professional development.
Required supporting documents
For an application to be considered, all of the following are submitted:
- Application form, completed electronically in the online form.
- A copy of the degree certificate and a detailed transcript of marks.
- A photocopy of an identity card or passport.
- A detailed curriculum vitae, with a recent photograph.
Important: The submission of the above supporting documents is necessary for an application to be complete and able to be considered.
Evidence that may strengthen an application
Applicants may submit additional evidence which may be taken into account during the evaluation procedure. By way of example:
- Two letters of recommendation from members of the academic or professional community.
- Certificates of knowledge of foreign languages (English, French or German).
- Other qualifications.
- Evidence of professional experience.
- Scientific publications and papers.
- Certificates of participation in training programmes and seminars.
- Any other evidence documenting academic or professional interest.
Please note: The submission of the above evidence is optional and is not a precondition for submitting an application or having it considered.
Selection criteria and procedure
The selection of postgraduate students is carried out in accordance with the institutional framework in force and with the Regulation of Studies of the Programme. The evaluation takes into account academic, scientific and professional qualifications, as well as performance at the oral interview.
In particular, the following are taken into account:
- the mark of the first degree,
- knowledge of one or more foreign languages,
- the holding of more than one degree or qualification,
- the holding of another postgraduate degree,
- the holding of a Doctoral Diploma,
- published scientific papers,
- participation in training seminars and programmes,
- professional experience,
- performance at the oral interview.
The evaluation is carried out by a three-member evaluation committee, appointed in accordance with the prescribed procedures. The committee examines each applicant’s file as a whole and assesses their qualifications, academic and professional career, scientific or research work, as well as their interest in and suitability for the subject of the Programme.
The final selection and ranking of applicants is made on the basis of the results of the overall evaluation, in accordance with the prescribed procedures and the decisions of the competent academic bodies.
Number of admitted students
The number of admitted students is set at up to forty (40) per cycle of studies. Applicants are selected in accordance with the evaluation and ranking procedure described in this call and with the institutional framework in force.
Where the number of applicants so requires, more than one class may be created, on the recommendation of the Coordinating Committee and by decision of the Department Assembly.
Fees and exemption from tuition fees
Total cost of studies
The total amount of tuition fees for the Programme is €2,900. For the convenience of students, payment is made in three instalments:

At the student’s request, special facilitation of the method of payment of the fees may be considered, in accordance with the prescribed procedures.
Exemption from tuition fees
Students who meet the conditions laid down by the legislation in force may submit a request for exemption from the obligation to pay tuition fees. The exemption is granted in accordance with the conditions, criteria and procedure laid down by the institutional framework in force.
The relevant announcements, instructions and deadlines are posted on the website of the Programme. Students are required to comply with the Regulation of Studies of the Programme, as well as with the regulations and decisions of the competent bodies of the Department and of the University of Western Macedonia.
Duration and structure of studies
The duration of studies is three (3) semesters and corresponds to 90 credits (ECTS).
1st Semester
Comprises six (6) courses on banking and finance.
2nd Semester
Comprises six (6) courses on banking and finance, with further study in depth of the subject areas of the Programme.
3rd Semester
Combines the preparation of the dissertation with two (2) further courses in the insurance sector.
On completion of the three semesters and fulfilment of all the prescribed academic obligations, the Master of Science (M.Sc) in Banking-Insurance and Finance is awarded.
Mode of study — distance learning
Teaching is carried out entirely by synchronous and asynchronous distance learning methods, in accordance with the provisions of Law 4957/2022. This format enables students to follow the Programme irrespective of their place of residence.
Classes are held mainly in the afternoon on working days and at the weekend, making attendance easier for students who are in employment.
The use of modern digital tools and teaching methods supports the active participation of students, communication with the teaching staff and the smooth conduct of the educational process.

Welcome to the Master’s Programme “Banking-Insurance and Finance” of the Department of Accounting and Finance of the University of Western Macedonia.
Today’s financial environment is changing constantly and places increasing demands on professionals with specialised knowledge, analytical thinking and the ability to understand and make use of the current tools of banking, insurance and finance.
With this need as our starting point, we have designed a Programme that combines a sound theoretical foundation with the practical application of knowledge. The use of modern teaching methods, specialised laboratories and databases, together with contact with the academic and professional community, creates an environment of genuine learning and development.
