Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student will acquire knowledge and skills allowing:

  • An understanding of forms of financing, particularly for new undertakings and small and medium-sized enterprises, that do not constitute bank financing
  • An understanding of the different forms of financing according to the investment and, more generally, financing need of the undertaking
  • The assessment of the appropriate financing in relation to the needs of the undertaking
  • A connection with the financing opportunities created by major national, European and international development programmes

  • Microloans and the microfinance framework
  • Crowd funding
  • Loan guarantee schemes
  • Financing of Spin Off, Start Up and Early Stage companies: Venture Capital, Angels
  • Financing of companies through Mezzanine, Equity: Venture Capital
  • Financing of intellectual property projects
  • Mixed financing schemes: subsidised and non-subsidised
  • European structural and investment funds (European Regional Development Fund, Cohesion Fund, European Social Fund, European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, etc.)
  • The Partnership Agreement — NSRF (ESPA) 2021-2027 (national, regional and sectoral programmes)
  • Financing programmes for island, mountainous and cross-border areas
  • The Competitiveness of Enterprises and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises programme (COSME)
  • The development law in force at any given time
  • The “Jeremie” financing programme of the European Investment Bank
  • The Competitiveness of Enterprises and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises programme (COSME)
  • The special funds (Recovery Fund, Just Development Transition Fund, etc.). More generally, financing programmes that create investment opportunities, such as:
  • “Horizon”, “Creative Europe”, “LIFE”

The syllabus may be adjusted according to the needs of the course.

Assessment

Assessment is carried out in two ways: the preparation of assignments, counting for up to 30% of the total mark — the structure and presentation of the text, the quality of the analysis and the bibliographical references are taken into account above all — and a written final examination, counting for 70%. Language of assessment: Greek.
